Obituary

Col. Raymond Allen Vitkus, 60, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010 at UNC Cancer Hospital. He was born in Chicago, IL to the late Charles and Rhea Vitkus.
Col. Vitkus is survived by his loving wife Kerry; daughters, Mary Tomczak (husband Tim) and Pam Jordan (husband Nick); brother, David Vitkus (wife Barbara); Grandchildren, Kimberly, Cali, and Michael; and Niece and Nephew, Gwen and David (wife Cheryl).
During his 28 years as an officer in the United States Air Force, he served in Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, New Mexico, Florida, and Germany and was awarded the Legion of Merit.  Subsequently he served in the Central Intelligence Agency, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and as a youth and young adult minister at Hay Street United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC.  Col. Vitkus and his brother were instrumental in the building of American Legion Post 116 in Fuquay-Varina, NC.  He loved his wife, daughters, and the Lord. Perhaps the best summary of Col. Vitkus’ life is found in this: “well done, good, and faithful servant.”
Visitation will be held at Williford Funeral Home, Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be conducted at Fuquay Varina United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 11am. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on January 5, 2011.
